Baun On Beatles

New interpretations with respect, spirit & spark

Søren Baun (piano, vocal)

Andreas Møllerhøj (bass)

Ulrik Brohuus (drums)

In sixth grade we went through a beatlemania for minors. We listened to The Beatles while we did our needlework and at parties. Even as a child of the eighties I had to choose: Rolling Stones or The Beatles?

My first piano teacher taught me the first of many Beatles songs. We also made a bet whether the songs I Will and Julia are subsequent on The White Album. They are and I won an african mouth harp made of bamboo.

My fathers vinyl collection was just where I could reach it, and full of The Beatles. At the piano I went through the pages of Beatles Complete. A lot of the chords were wrong, so I came up with my own.

For me the the music of The Beatles is full of nostalgia, images and feelings. I still find great joy in sitting at the piano and singing one of their countless evergreens the way it wants to come out today.

I have known Andreas and Ulrik for many years. The first time we played together was at a højskole north of Copenhagen. We quickly discovered a mutual passion for The Beatles and the idea of Baun On Beatles was gradually formed.

On our LIVE album saxofonist Mads Ole is a special guest on four songs adding new colours to the sound.

It has been inspiring, meaningful and a lot of fun borrowing from the great Beatles songbook. I hope you can cope with these new interpretations of our pop cultural heirlooms.”
